“Freedom to Palestine” echoed in the streets of Athens

Thousands of people including workers and students took to the streets of Athens to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Nakba. The Nakba or “catastrophe” refers to the forced removal of 750.000 Palestinians from their homes, when the state of Israel was established 77 years ago. The “terrorist state” of Israel, backed by the U.S. government and the E.U. is committing from then until today an ongoing genocide, having murdered within the past year only, tens of thousands of men, women and children, while forcing other Palestinians into famine and hunger, while bombing schools and hospitals.

On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Nakba our organization CPG (m-l) took the initiative to call a meeting of the political parties prior to the Pro – Palestine demonstration in order to organize it.

On May the 17th student unions, political parties of the out-parliamentary Left, anarchists, members of the Palestinian community in Greece and Palestinians started from Eleftherias Park in Athens and marched towards the U.S. and Israel embassy with a militant demonstration. The police presence was intense and provocative during the protest and was “guarding” both the U.S. and the Israeli embassy.

CPG (m-l) took part in the protest and expressed with its banner, slogans and announcements its perception and political position for the free and independent Palestine state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. Our organization denounced also the long standing support of the current and all the previous Greek governments to the Israeli state according to the U.S. and the E.U. orders. Moreover we stressed the necessity for the development of an anti-war, anti-imperialist movement against the unjust war of the USA-NATO-Russia in Ukraine.

In parallel with the American plans for the evacuation of Gaza, the state terrorist of Israel is preparing the “New Nakba”, the complete destruction of Palestine. While the imperialists are getting ready for the next world war the peoples need to come to the fore. The oppressors and exploiters are trying to turn the people into victims of war and disaster. The students and the workers, people and the youth have to organize and fight through their unions to defend their right to life. The peoples have no need of protectors. They can rely only on their own forces to put an end in their upcoming massacre. Similar protests took place all over Greece the last days. In Thessaloniki, Igoumenitsa, Crete, Patra, Volos, Samos and more.

The construction of an anti-war anti-imperialism front of the peoples is a necessity and can put an end to the dangerous developments.

  • Freedom to Palestine from the river to the sea
  • Solidarity with the Palestinian resistance
  • US-NATO and Russia out of Ukraine
  • Common struggles of the peoples against unjust wars and imperialism
